Venice, Italy

This design attempts to design primarily through circulation. The structure represents an extension of the ‘Fundamenta’ already present in Venice. Users are brought from the existing Fundamenta to its continuation and are presented with two views. As they continue to walk on their left is a range of structures housing various programmatic spaces. On their right is the expansive view of the lagoon. Walking along the Fundamenta, one is presented with the option to either enter spaces, or enter in between spaces. The different Strada often make their way in between the built environment, compressing the visitor before opening up into the bay where one can normally find a garden or gallery. The structures are made up of a series of walls that slip past one another, forcing a user to turn the corner and discover the space beyond. The free standing walls found in the water curate space, pushing boats and people alike in the right direction and directing vision.
