Chelsea, NYC, New York
This design is proposed as a microcosm of the island of Manhattan and in particular the historic Chelsea district.
The structure is made up of 2 layers, the exposed exoskeleton and the walls that infill and create enclosure. The 3D grid that exists as a framework for the design houses all the necessary programs while calling back to original Chelsea warehouses. Rather than using wood as the historic district used to do, concrete is used for the exposed grid and wood is used as the infill.
The structure is split into 3 parts, the eastern face, western facade, and central thoroughfare. The central winter garden is inset into the site and creates a passageway from the east to the west, allowing for east access between 10th and 11th avenues. The eastern face of the building, which faces the Hudson river, houses the hotel. The western face, which looks at the High-Line, houses all Artist Guild Programs. Various connections between the two sides float above the winter garden in the center
